HEREFORD could play host to food wars this summer.

The Hereford Times reported last week how Worcester-based IK Events was planning a Hereford Food Festival after Visit Herefordshire announced that they would not be running the Flavours of Herefordshire Festival this summer.

But a separate event is also taking shape, with the iconic Left Bank venue as the backdrop.

Gary Waring, from Left Bank, said: "We read that the Flavours of Herefordshire Festival has been cancelled and thought one of the major overheads is marquees and the like.

"We thought we would offer up the Left Bank and Kate Square – which would take away those over-heads – and see if we could help."

Mr Waring said Left Bank offers access to Cathedral Close via Gwynn Street and also suggested closing Hereford's Old Bridge for food stalls on the weekend of the event.

Councillor Jim Kenyon has offered his support to the idea.

"I think there's scope to do an event at the Left Bank whatever else is happening," he added.
