A HEREFORD man has been recognised for his 'outstanding' voluntary work with a Herefordshire housing provider.

Seb Bowley has made it to the regional final of the TPAS (Tenant Participation Advisory Service) Awards in the young Tenant of the Year category for his work with Herefordshire’s Supported Housing for Young People Project (SHYPP).

The 23-year-old, from, Hereford said: "To make it to the final is fantastic and it is great to be recognised."

SHYPP helped Mr Bowley to find accommodation and also encouraged him to become involved in a variety of projects which promote the wellbeing of young people.

He has spoken at the Youth Homeless Parliament at Westminster, presenting his recommendations about what can be done to prevent young people having to live on the streets.

He is also an ambassador for the Foyer Federations Healthy Hub, helping other young people to look after both their physical and mental wellbeing.

Tracey Brumwell, accommodation and support manager for SHYPP, said: "Seb has made a huge contribution to the work we do, the recognition is well deserved.

"He is a great example of how the right support can help a young person flourish and develop their skills.”

SHYPP works with 16 to 25-year-olds, offering emergency accommodation in supported housing projects, providing outreach support to young people and young parents, and delivering a 'Nightstop' emergency accommodation project.

Social housing tenants and landlords from across the Midlands will battle it out at an awards ceremony at St John’s Hotel, Solihull, in March.
