HEREFORDSHIRE is set to play host to its second Community Games event for adults with learning disabilities next week.

The Herefordshire Learning Disability Community Games, supported by local athletes and officials, takes place on Wednesday (September 10) and is set to bring together adults with learning disabilities to take part in events including football, giant skittles, WiFit, Tai Chi and boxing.

The games will be opened by Councillor Olwyn Barnett, chairman of Herefordshire Council, and Jamie Dancyger, Special Olympics GB athlete.

Mr Dancyger will be bringing along a selection of his 10 gold, seven silver and four bronze medals to inspire them.

Ian Sockett, one of Herefordshire’s Olympic torchbearers in 2012, who has overcome considerable personal health issues to win London, Paris and New York marathon medals, will also be attending and meeting competitors.

The event has been organised by Affinity Trust, ECHO, Herefordshire Mencap and 2gether who provide support and opportunities for adults with a learning disability across the county.

The Community Games has been made possible with funding from Sport Relief and the Renton Foundation.
