A BORDER town with close international links held its annual Christmas fayre last weekend.

Hay Fairtrade Christmas Fayre was held for the ninth time as the established group hosted stalls with produce for sale from Zimbabwe, Nepal and Timbuktu.

Hay, Brecon and Talgarth Sanctuary for Refugees also benefitted from a portion of profits sold from Christmas trees during the event.

"It was very much an international event," said Hay-on-Wye mayor Trudy Stedman, who opened the event.

"We are kind of an internationally known town and I think quite a few groups within the town have a global outlook rather than a small rural town. They have a concept of contributing to the wider world which is quite nice."
