ON October 28 members of the Knighton and District Rotary Club adorned Knighton's Brookside Square and the Knighton Community Market with purple balloons to support World Polio Day.
Purple is the colour that is used to indicate that children across the world have been vaccinated for polio hence the slogan "Purple 4 polio".
Rotary members across the country have been raising awareness, and raising money, to finally eradicate polio for good.
Only two countries have had cases of polio in the past 12 months and with everyone's support this debilitating disease can be removed from the world completely.
Rotary Club community chairman Nick Stimpson said today "The Gates Foundation is donating US$2 for every US$1 raised by Rotary members and we are grateful to the people of Knighton, encouraged by "Purple 4 Polio" cupcakes made by Rotary member Angela Ellis, who have helped us raise nearly US$200 for this polio eradication push."
