WELLINGTON Parish History Society members and visitors could be seen snaking their way around and about the timber framed buildings of the village on July 1, indeed in some cases in and out as householders invited the 30 strong gathering inside.

Ably led by timber framed building expert Duncan James, the group, ranging in age from less than one to more than three score and ten, was keenly engaged as Duncan read, interpreted and revealed the history of the buildings.

He marvelled at the ceiling bosses in St Margaret's Church; pushed back the date of one of the houses visited by a century by interpreting the saw marks on the timber and introduced walkers to jowl posts, pyramid stops and arch braces.

Wellington Parish History Society is a thriving, friendly group, meeting on the last Thursday of January, March, May, September and November at 7.30pm in Wellington Village Hall, HR4 8AZ.

The society has a website wellingtonhistory.org.uk and Facebook page facebook.com/wellingtonphs.

The next meeting is Almshouses of Herefordshire on September 28, led by Dr Sylvia Pinches.
