ON March 24 members of the Ledbury Singing for the Brain group met with volunteers and with singers from local choirs to share their joy in singing with the local community.

The group, run by Alzheimer's Society, is aimed at supporting people to live well with dementia. Music promotes social and emotional well-being, stimulating the brain, maintaining language and uniting people through reminiscence and song.

Sarah Hoyle, the group facilitator, said: The members of the group planned this event themselves. I feel that it went really well. We had fun, and it felt good to get out there into the community and share who we are and what we are doing'.

Jill Davies a local choral singer from Tewkesbury and volunteer with Mindsong said: "Singing always lifts the spirits."

The group generally meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month, at the Community Hall, Lawnside Road, between 2pm and 3.30pm.

Linda Ayres lives in Colwall and volunteers at Ledbury SFTB. She said: "We are here or fun and friendship."
