HEREFORD Lions Club has been a regular supporter of St Michaels Hospice since it opened 34 years ago and its latest donation of £10,000 will help the hospice to continue providing care free of charge to its patients.
The money was raised by a charity auction at the Lions autumn ball held at Lyde Arundel and club president David Hartland and members of the ball organising committee are pictured at the hospice when the president handed over the cheque to Mike Keel, the hospice chief executive.
Said Mr Keel: "It costs more than £4.8m a year to run the hospice and we rely entirely on donations from the public and organisations such as the Lions who have been so generous in their support over the years."
Mr Hartland said: "The ball was a great success, due to the support of the Watkins family at Lyde Arundel and especially the 200 guests who bid so generously for the wonderful selection of items, all donated by local firms and individuals."
The Lions members were given a tour of the £11m new 20 bed hospice building and the original building now refurbished as a day-patient facility. Said Mr Hartland: "What St Michaels has achieved is truly amazing and it is a privilege to be involved in helping raise the funds to provide such an outstanding and much appreciated service."
