A CHRISTMAS concert with the Salvation Army brought back happy childhood memories for all ages of singing carols outside during the Christmas season.

The musicians and singers gave superb performances and the varied programme provided fun and congregational participation.

In addition to the much-loved traditional carols, there were individual performances by Peter Soley, and Majors Mervyn and Margaret Baker; readings, prayers and a rousing dance by the Timbrels.

After the Christmas Benediction, Colin Butler MBE of the Malvern Childline, remarked how delighted he was to see so many people attending the concert as part of the proceeds from it were going towards the Childline charity.

Colin, who has worked with Dame Esther Rantzen said that Childline was a vitally important organisation as alarming statistics show that the suicide rate amongst young people has increased.

Childline exists to help anyone under 19 in the UK with any issue they're going through. Whether it's something big or small, the specially trained counsellors are available to give support in complete confidence. Childline is free and available any time, day or night.

Salvation Army Lieutenant Leanne Wallis thanked everyone for supporting the event on a cold and frosty evening and was delighted they had found a warm and joyful welcome at St James Church in Welland.
