LOCAL pensioners were treated like royalty at a joint celebration, organised by Asda Hereford and the neighbouring Kindle Centre, in aid of Breast Cancer Care.

The Queen's Pink High Tea event was just one of the strawberry tea events that Asda's Community Champion, June Thurston, has been organising for the community.

The pensioners, who all live on their own in the local community, were joined by local dignitaries for a royal afternoon tea, served by local volunteers including June, Kindle Centre manager Amanda Evans, local community police officers and councillor Paul Rone.

June Thurston said: "What an amazing time we've had raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Care.

"We had a fabulous group who enjoyed every minute, including 97-year old Nancy Evans, who did not stop laughing all day was absolutely wonderful company.

"Whether it's you and a few friends in the garden, a family tea party or even a strawberry bake sale at your work or school, this is a great excuse to get together, host a strawberry tea event and make a massive difference."

Hannah Branch, community fundraising manager at Breast Cancer Care, said: "We're delighted Asda colleagues and customers are supporting Breast Cancer Care and strawberry tea this summer.

"We'd love more people to gather friends and family to host their own afternoon tea. The funds raised through each and every strawberry tea enable Breast Cancer Care to continue to be there for anyone facing breast cancer, from day one."

All money raised will help Breast Cancer Care provide support for women, men, family and friends affected by breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Care is the only UK wide charity providing support for anyone affected by breast cancer.
