THE historic Burgage Hall in Ledbury was the venue for another event organised by the Ledbury Library Development Group who were delighted to welcome the political sketch writer and theatre critic, Quentin Letts.
Mr Letts who lives in Herefordshire, gave hilarious accounts of his time in various capacities as a journalist and proved to be an excellent mimic, when sharing encounters with politicians and celebrities. The hall was full and people listened attentively as he outlined the thinking behind his latest book The Speaker's Wife. This is his first foray into novel-writing and many are hoping it won't be his last. He tantalised the audience by reading select passages from the book, to illustrate his thoughts on what is happening to our society.
Lindsay Jackson of Ledbury Books and Maps had copies of Mr Letts' books available and sales were brisk. She generously donated 10% of her takings to the LLDG. This will form part of a further donation to Ledbury Library to provide additional resources such as children's books and audio books. Following a break for refreshments, the second part of the evening developed as a lively discussion with Mr Letts' on topics as varied as his plans for his next book, the refugee crisis and whether or not Britain should remain as part of the European Union.
The LLDG raise money to support Ledbury Library and together with their fellow library user groups in the county, lobby to protect library and customer services. Mr Letts gave his time freely to help support the cause of protecting libraries.
