ABERYSTWYTH Male Voice Choir will be performing in Penybont Community Centre on Sunday, April 22, 7pm for 7.30pm start.

Aberystwyth Male Voice Choir was established in 1962 as a choir of Post Office employees, it as since then extended its membership to men of all walks of life, and currently has about 35 members.

The conductor and director of music is Mr Alwyn Evans who is a graduate of The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The accompanist is Elenid Thomas. There is over 200 items in the choir repertoire and music is sung in a wide range of languages including Welsh, English, Latin, French and German.

The choir has toured extensively visiting France, Germany, Holland, USA, Canada and many parts of the UK and Mid Wales.Considerable success has also been achieved in the Eisteddfod field with the choir winning first prize on two occasions in the national event. Much of the choir's work is to support charity events and they were recently able to present a cheque for £1,200 to the hospice at home service following a concert in Machynlleth. Over the years hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised for good causes.

The choir will be joined by supporting artists Harriot Williams and Ioan Joshua Mabbutt.

Harriot, is a 20-year-old from Lyonshall, Herefordshire. She went to Hereford Cathedral School, then to Hereford Sixth Form College and is now studying in Aberystwyth University. She was a member of the Cantabile girls choir which won the Llangollen Eisteddfod twice and were on BBC Choir of the Year. Harriot is classically trained but since leaving school has sang on her own at various different events. Harriot is also a member of Radnor Valley Young Farmers' Club.

Ioan is 11-years-old and is a pupil at Ysgol Gymraeg Aberystwyth. Along with his two younger sisters, Elan and Alis, he enjoys performing and regularly supports local eisteddfodau. Ioan won first prize in the solo under 12 years competition at the National Eisteddfod in Abergavenny in 2016 - the first time he had competed at National Eisteddfod.

He recently sang with Welsh Tenors, Aled Wyn Davies and Aled Hall at a concert in Aberystwyth to celebrate the Golden Anniversary of the Merched Y Wawr movement.
