ON March 16, The Temple Bar Inn in Ewyas Harold hosted its third Herefordshire breakfast to raise money for the Addington Fund.

The Addington Fund is a registered farming charity, set up during foot and mouth, when farmers were not permitted to move or sell their stock. Cash grants were made from the Fund as a contribution towards their additional feed costs.

While the Fund continues to provide assistance to famers and those working on the land in times of hardship and in an emergency, its main area of work now is to provide homes for farming families, especially tenant farmers, living in England and Wales who have to give up their land and farmhouse when they leave the industry or relinquish their tenancy - through no fault of their own.

The Fund also runs an affordable rural housing scheme, renting properties in different parts of the country to people who have a link to agriculture or a rural industry.

The Addington Fund takes pride in using all the monies it collects to assist farmers and those working on the land; running costs being kept to an absolute minimum, usually being taken from interest on monies saved.

The Fund has helped, and continues to help, farming families in Herefordshire as well as other parts of the country.

Mike Williams, a qualified surveyor, who manages the maintenance, refurbishment and development of the Fund's property portfolio, and Peter Jinman, a Trustee of the Fund, both live in Herefordshire and were delighted to welcome over 55 people to The Temple Bar Inn, where they were treated to a Herefordshire breakfast cooked by the inn's head chef and manager, Philly Jinman, who is also Peter's daughter.

She was ably assisted by her staff team; Aaron King in the kitchen, and David Hope and Claire Gealy who waited on tables in the bar and in the restaurant.

In keeping with the inn's ethos, the ingredients for the breakfast were sourced from local suppliers, including bacon and sausages from RJ & RB Mailes in Ewyas Harold, eggs from Country Flavours in Madley, and milk from Bartonsham Dairy in Hereford.

Guests were invited to make a donation to the Fund for their breakfast and buy raffle tickets for a hamper and other prizes.

The total amount raised was over £1,800 thanks to everyone involved.
