THE 10th annual Walk the Wye sponsored walk event, on Sunday, May 13, and organised by the Rotary Clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross-on-Wye, will again be raising funds for the breast cancer research team at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff.

There are six different walks to choose from, along the banks of the River Wye, with distances to suit everybody, from two miles up to 15 miles. In addition there is the Wye Valley Views walk that takes walkers high above the river, to include the Kymin, Buck Stone and Suck Stone viewpoints.

The format is the same as that of previous years. Walkers will meet at Monmouth Show Ground, where there is free car parking, and buses will take them to the start of their chosen walk. They then walk back to the show ground along the riverside footpaths. Bacon rolls and tea/coffee will be available at the show ground to get walkers off to a good start. Refreshments and ice creams will welcome them back after their walk. The starting times for the 7 walks have been varied so that most walkers will arrive at the finish at Monmouth Show Ground at between 2.30pm and 4pm.

Rotarian Norman Williams commented "The Rotary Clubs of Monmouth, Chepstow and Ross-on-Wye believe that research into a cure for breast cancer is a very worthy cause to support. Every year, thousands of women, and some men, are diagnosed with breast cancer. Almost everybody knows somebody who has been affected by breast cancer, either directly or through a relative or friend or work colleague. Survival rates are improving but much more research is needed to ultimately defeat it. Walkers who have taken part in our 9 previous walk events have raised over £89,000 in total for breast cancer research. We hope to increase that to over £100,000 this year."

The entry fee for this year's event is just £5, to cover organisational costs. (Includes free parking at Monmouth Show Ground and free buses to take walkers to the start of their chosen walk).
