ROSS-ON-WYE First XI cricket team will be playing in the Marches League division one next season, after claiming its first league title in more than 20 years.

The team is sponsored by REHAU, which has helped fund the repair and upkeep of pitch machines such as the rollers and mowers.

The cricket club beat its nearest rivals Cleobury Mortimer in the penultimate match of the season to claim the Marches League division two title. The team is now looking forward to playing in the top flight when the season starts again next year.

Founded in 1837, Ross-on-Wye Cricket Club is a flourishing local club with two senior men’s Saturday teams and a senior-friendly team which plays on a Sunday. The club also runs junior cricket teams for girls and boys, and training sessions for local cricket enthusiasts of all ages.

Martin Hitchin, chief executive from REHAU, said: “As a major employer in Ross-on-Wye, we are always keen to support the local community where we can and are so proud to have supported the cricket club in its winning campaign this season. We wish them all the best for their next season in division one.”
