A KINGTON group has been bowled over after they received new gilets sponsored by a local funeral services company.

Kington Bowling Club, which currently has about 50 members, recently received 52 of the smart white and maroon gilets emblazoned with the club badge, from Bill Rowlatt of Oak Tree Funeral Services based at Eardisley, near Kington.

Mr Rowlatt visited the club's ground at Park Road last week to see all the members proudly wearing their gilets.

He said: "I am really pleased that you are happy with the gilets and that you are wearing them tonight.

"We have been in business for the last 18 years and we like to be involved with the local community and are proud to be able to offer our support to Kington Bowling Club."

Club chairman David Walters said: "We thank Bill and Oak Tree Funeral Services for their most generous sponsorship. We will wear them for home and away matches, competitions and to visit other clubs."

Kington Bowling Club has been in existence since 1898 and it hosts a club night on Mondays and a practice session on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm.

The club plays in the Tarmac League which includes 14 clubs mainly in Herefordshire but the club also plays Hay, Talgarth, Knighton and Presteigne. They have a trip every year and also hold social nights at the club house.

They are keen to attract new members, and particularly want to encourage young people to try the sport. Beginners do not need to purchase any special equipment as the club can provide everything needed. A flat pair of shoes is all that is required.

The club regularly holds pro-am competitions to encourage beginners to try bowls by playing with an experienced member.
