THE daughter of a Herefordshire-based arts and crafts pioneer is exhibiting her late mother's work in the hope of inspiring others.

Kate Renshall died in February aged 81.

Kate was a Staunton-on-Wye resident who led a distinguished life which saw her become founder member of the Quilter's Guild, exhibit around the country and sit on the committee of many museums including the V&A in London.

In her memory, Susan Storey is hosting an exhibition and sale of haberdashery, fabric and her mother's main love, quilting.

'She wanted her items to be shown to inspire others and to get use out of them,' says Susan.

'She loved teaching people and would be very pleased that this is happening. Quilters from around Herefordshire and beyond will be there. Kate had a wide interest in culture, particularly anything to do with museums, arts and crafts. The quilts were just one part of this.'

Kate formed the Staunton Stitchers after moving from London in 1989, but disbanded the group shortly before she died. Some of its former members will be on hand on the day to lend advice.

At the end of her life, Kate was cared for by the Hospice at Home team from St Michael's Hospice in Hereford so the exhibition and sale is raising funds for the hospice.

On the day of the exhibition there will be a silent auction featuring a number of special items including a Liberty quilt and a Bernina sewing machine, as well as a raffle for a quilt and other stalls and refreshments. There will also be stands featuring St Michael's Hospice, the Friends of Herefordshire Museums and the Courtyard, all of which Kate was involved with in different ways.

The exhibition and sale of quilts will be held on Saturday, July 15 from 11am-3pm at Staunton-on-Wye Village Hall. Everyone is welcome and admission is free. All proceeds from the day will go to St Michael's Hospice.
