THE Ledbury Poetry Festival presents yet another excellent event with an evening of poetry, music, song, and narrative.

The Cause: The Struggle Goes On to be held on Thursday, July 6 from 7pm - 8pm at the Burgage Hall in Church Lane, Ledbury, with: ticket cost of only £9.

The Cause was the Victorian name for what we now call feminism and was adopted by women's movements as they fought for the vote.

Attendees will hear Sophie Challonder's rendition of the poignant song The Ballad of Patience Kershaw.

Local poet and writer Sara-Jane Arbury will perform emotionally charged poetry of those who were involved, with wry and unusual verse from surprising sources, whilst narrator, Jan Long takes you on an immersive journey exploring the political and passionate turmoil and sometimes amusing irony of the struggle for female emancipation.

Jan recently completed an event at the Courtyard Theatre prefacing Gertrude Bell's Letters from Baghdad, which she helped research.

As the story unfolds the provocative question will be posed, 'how would those pioneers view the position of women today?'

The answers may give everyone pause to think.
