DOGS Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, officially opened the doors of their latest charity shop on January 27, with the help of a homeless hound from the local Evesham rehoming centre and the Mayor of Hereford, Jim Kenyon.

The Dogs Trust charity shop on 34 Widemarsh Street offers a wide range of second hand goods from women's clothes to household items to books and DVDs. Savvy shoppers and their canine counterparts will be able to browse the store together and all money raised will go towards Dogs Trust.

Dogs Trust retail area manager, Gemma Borkowy said: "We are delighted to be setting up shop here in Hereford. It's a fantastic place with a strong community spirit. We have already received so many generous donations but would be grateful for any extra items that can be spared. We'll be stocking everything and anything – from books and clothes to ornaments and household items."

One VIP (Very Important Pooch), Hayley, the ex-racing Greyhound from Dogs Trust Evesham came along to the opening. Hayley came into Dogs Trust after finishing her racing career and is now looking for a cosy home where she can really put her paws up.

Local Mayor, Jim Kenyon was also in attendance and enjoyed meeting both the two legged and four legged guests at the opening.

Mr Kenyon said: "I am thrilled to be at the opening of Dogs Trust's new Hereford charity shop today. The store is fantastic and all the money goes to a cause that is close to my heart."

The new Hereford Dogs Trust charity shop is on 34 Widemarsh Street, Hereford, HR4 9EP. The store will be open 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday and the team can be reached on 01432 265441. The shop is looking for donations of all shapes and sizes, particularly clothing and accessories. All funds raised through the shop will go towards funding Dogs Trust's work across the country.
