CHILDREN from Gladestry Church in Wales Primary School have planted daffodil bulbs on the village green.

One bag of bulbs was kindly donated by Lyonshall Nurseries and a second was donated anonymously.

The youngsters have been hearing in school about the Aberfan tragedy when 116 children and 28 adults, including teachers, were killed after a landslide of coal slurry engulfed the local primary school.

The bulb planting happened to fall on October 21, exactly 50 years on from the date of the disaster and headteacher, Mrs Hilary Morris, said that the planting of the bulbs was a fitting memorial to the children who died; when Gladestry pupils pass by the green in spring and see the daffodils, they will remember them.
