AN organisation which uses the arts to support young people's education and personal development launched its latest film on recently at the Courtyard in Hereford.

Media Shypp's Two Kids Lost is a modern re-telling of Hansel and Gretel through film and poetry created by vulnerable and disadvantaged young people from across Herefordshire.

Using poetry as the narrative, the film explores the experience of two sisters who find life at home with their dad and stepmother intolerable.

Young people, aged 16-19, created the poetry, sound design, acted, and were camera operators and editors under the guidance of Media Shypp and creative arts practitioner Toni Cook.

Media Shypp is a project run by Hereford based Kemble Housing and is part of WM Housing Group.

Kevin Rodgers, chief executive of WM Housing Group said: 'It was a brilliant evening at the Courtyard with our local partners out in force to support the premiere. The audience was gripped by this powerful film and its great production values.'

Bill Jackson, High Sheriff of Herefordshire said: 'Tonight was something quite special, we saw young people creating a film about themselves and telling their own story. A wonderful, wonderful film, well done to all involved.'

After its premiere the piece will be performed at next year's Ledbury Poetry Festival with live elements, echoing the successful Story of Mary and Joe made by the same team in 2015.

This project has been supported by the Lottery through the BFI's Into Film initiative.
