HUNTINGTON FETE BREAKS ALL RECORDS - The Huntington Fete has been going since 1954. With the exception of two years, it has been in the same place, Huntington Court, on the same date (the third Saturday of July), yet every year it appears to be getting better and better.

Two to 300 people attended it on the warm summer’s day of July 16. It is a time when the whole village pulls together - hardly anyone is without a job and this year, an amazing £3,754.58 was raised, beating the previous record of £3,732.50 as long ago as 2005.

Robert Jones, the chairman said, “It is remarkable that such an enormous amount of money should be raised in just two hours. With Huntington’s population being only about 88, it just shows how a simple traditional fete works best. I would like to pay particular thanks to the owners of Huntington Court, William and Fiona Shone who especially worked tirelessly for the success of the day, as well as all the other friends of the village who all contributed a huge amount of effort and energy to give visitors one of the best days of the summer.”

The money will be divided between the church of St Thomas à Becket, the United Reform Church, the village hall, the WI and Newchurch Chapel.
