THE Year 5 children at Luston Primary School spent a very enjoyable day constructing an African Keyhole Garden, thanks to a grant from Kingspan Insulation Community Trust. The central container will be used as a compost bin and, as the waste breaks down, it will provide nutrients to ensure a good crop is harvested.
The garden was inspired by a trip to Tanzania, funded by the British Council's 'Connecting Classrooms' Grant, where these gardens were common in school grounds.
The school hopes to build a replica in their link school, Manyata Primary, Tanzania when they visit later this year.
