LEINTWARDINE is the place to be next weekend (June 18-19) as the annual open gardens event takes place with 11 gardens open - six new for 2016.

There will be fun for the entire family with church tours from noon to 1pm and the specified gardens open from 2pm to 6pm on both days.

Admission to the gardens is £6 per person which covers both days, children under 16 free. Tickets will be on sale at Griffiths Garage, Leintwardine SY7 0JZ or from any of the gardens on the day and all proceeds will go to the Community Centre.

Make a day of it and join one of the church tours including a trip up the tower (free for open gardens ticket holders). Then have lunch in one of Leintwardine's pubs before the gardens open at 2pm.

Garden activities include croquet, boules and badminton as well as a bran tub lucky dip. There's also a plant stall with a good selection of home grown plants and vegetables.

Teas and light refreshments and homemade cakes served all afternoon in the Community Centre with cakes available for purchase.

Also open is the History Society Visitor Centre in the Community Centre, with its fascinating collection of material relating to Leintwardine from its period of Roman occupation through to more recent times.

Refreshments in the gardens include a Pimms bar, ice creams, home made fudge and wood fired cob oven pizzas.
