SALLY Vaughan has become Mayor of Knighton for the first time. Cllr Chris Branford went through the highlights of her year before handing over the mayoral chain to Sally.

She said "The highlights of my year have been the national draughts competition brought to the town every year by Cllr John Morgan and celebrating 150 years of the railway on the Heart of Wales line firstly with a small celebration at Knighton station and then after a VIP trip via train with Cllr Derrick Price to Llandrindod wells unveiling a plaque there with Cllr Chris Rouse Mayor of Llandrindod Wells.

"Remembrance Sunday is always special, I laid the wreath on behalf of Knighton town council with the deputy mayor, junior mayor and deputy. This last year it was a great sight to see so many children from the school at the Cenotaph. Thank you to all the school staff for getting children involved in these important events."

Chris said she loved her visits to the primary school and meeting with members of the junior council. Another of her favourite things was the Christmas time celebrations including turning on the lights and fancy dress competition.

She finished by saying "Thank you to everyone who has supported me during my term as mayor and I would like to wish Sally all the very best for the coming year."

After the mayoral chain was presented to Sally she said "Thank you to everyone for electing me as your new mayor. My aim as mayor is to represent the town and people of Knighton to the very best of my ability and I so look forward to my year as Knighton's town mayor. I have been overwhelmed by the kind words, messages and support that I have received so far and would like to thank everyone for being so kind."
