AT last weeks Knighton Community Market the stall holders and customers said goodbye to Olwen Bowen and Gwen Evans. The two ladies have been selling their cakes, pastries, eggs and other produce since the market first opened in 2000. Olwen 88 and Gwen 84 have been selling their produce for over thirty years in the Knighton area. The two were first involved in the WI community markets that sold produce from the building where the furniture barn is now and then from the livestock market canteen. When they first started there were lots of ladies selling their cakes, pastries, preserves etc, but over the years many have left or passed away.

On their last day at the market, market manager Chris Plant thanked the ladies for coming to the markets regularly and selling their produce. He added "you will be greatly missed" and he wished them all the best for the future. He then presented them with a pot of plants and a card signed by all the stall holders. Gwen said she is looking forward to having a lie in and watching horse racing on the TV every Saturday now but Olwen will still be baking but just selling her cakes to a local business and a couple of private customers.
