ON April 14, the John Kyrle Under 13 girls' cricket team were crowned champions at the Lady Taverners indoor cricket finals against a strong and confident Wigmore team comprising of several county cricketers.

With John Kyrle captain Chloe Tingle winning the toss, it was Wigmore who were put into bat and John Kyrle's fielding was put to the test. Carys Lowley led by example at wicket keeper, with a faultless display of athletic dives to prevent any byes and all the John Kyrle fielders worked tirelessly to limit the boundaries by Wigmore. Ellie Lown and county cricketer, Chloe Tingle led the charge with their excellent, tight bowling; both girls took wickets and bowled maiden overs. At the end of their allotted eight overs Wigmore were 51-4 leaving John Kyrle with a reasonable target to beat.

From the off, the girls were keen to make inroads into the Wigmore total with Lucy Powell hitting several fours to get the ball rolling. Cerys Johnson and Carys Lowley both batted confidently, scoring sixes, with Lowley retiring on 15 not out. Running was strong between the wickets and John Kyrle reached 52-4 in the fourth over to take the match and the county title.

This result meant that John Kyrle progressed to the regional finals in Stoke-on-Trent on April 18 where they were representing Herefordshire. After a very early start and against seven tough opposition schools, they finished a creditable fifth place with plenty to work on for the future.
