THE Herefordshire Samaritans' Van in High Town gave passers-by the opportunity to talk confidentially to the volunteers. It was a chance too to just generally find out more. Many people have heard of Samaritans, but they don't always know what Samaritans actually does.

There are moments in life when it can be a struggle to cope and life can seem bleak. For some, this can lead to a feeling of hopelessness and to loosing sight of how to work through problems. At times like this, a chance to talk to someone who will really listen can make a big difference. This is where Samaritans come in. Talking in complete confidentiality to someone you don't know and who is outside your life can often be easier, as well as helpful. Together you can look at the things that are troubling or hurting you and give you support through difficult decisions you might have to make.

People who contact Samaritans can always be sure of a safe place to talk with no risk of judgement. There are several different ways to get in touch. There is a free phone number - 116123, e-mail "jo@samaritans.org" or come to the branch on Berrington Street.

The Samaritans Van will be in High Town, Hereford again on August 27 and November 4.
