SINCE September, girl's rugby has been a popular after school club at John Kyrle and pupils have taken to the game like ducks to water.

In fixtures against local schools, the girls have remained unbeaten including victories against the U13 Gloucestershire champions, Dean Magna as well as Monmouth, Hereford Academy, and Weobley.

Their successes saw them qualify for the North Midlands U13 Girls tournament held at Five Ways Old Edwardians RFC in March.

The girls played three matches in their group, winning the first and second match 30-0 and 25-15 respectively. Then, in a very close game, they conceded a try in the final minute to lose 10-15. This saw the team finish second in their group putting them through to the third and fourth place play off which they won by 15 points to five.

The girls finished in third place overall in their very first North Midlands tournament and special mention should be made to player of the tournament Carys Lowley who worked tirelessly in defence, putting in some excellent tackles in every game.

Try of the tournament was awarded jointly to captain Ellie Lown and Hennessy Vine for their great efforts.
