THE Courtyard welcomed visitors to the Georgie Meadows: Stitched Drawings opening event on March 24.

Guests (including John Killick world renowned dementia poet) attended the private view of the textile portraits produced by the Monmouth based artist Georgie Meadows. Based on her own experiences from her work as an occupational therapist, she has tenderly crafted compassionate portraits of people into stitched works.

Short snapshot stories which accompany the artist's works outline the daily challenges and triumphs of her sitters. For example, a woman finds that people assume her to be grumpy since losing her teeth; the success of a man's day is measured by his dressing himself; a woman is hungry but her brain will no longer tell her how to eat.

Katrin Cross, adult participation officer, "We are thrilled to have work from The Wellcome Collection exhibited here at The Courtyard. Georgie's work has a unique quality and relates directly to the ethos of Creative Ageing, to raise awareness of the issues faced by older people and people living with dementia and their carers."

Georgie Meadows: Stitched Drawings is a Welcome Collection Touring Exhibition. It runs at The Courtyard until June 5.
