MOST young people have become totally reliant on their phones, and other electronic devices but for one group of youngsters they decided to do a sponsored 24 hours 'no tech' sleep over. Over 20 members of Edw Valley Young Farmers club and their club leaders spent twenty four hours from noon on January 9 till noon on January 10 in Hundred House Village Hall without any way of using their phones, laptops, Ipads, Ipods, or anything else they used for chatting, messaging, listening to music, taking photos, checking emails, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc.

The young farmers club will be celebrating it's 70th anniversary in 2016 and members held the 'no tech' event to help raise money for the clubs celebrations. Members raised around £1,000 including match funding from the HSBC through club leader Angela Nixon a bank employee.

The young farmers didn't go short of food while they were taking part in the challenge because the local Co-op had sponsored them by giving them lots of food and members brought along their own snacks. For their main evening mean they had chicken korma with all the trimmings followed by apple crumble and for breakfast on the Sunday morning bacon sandwiches all cooked by club members and leaders.

To keep them entertained there was also plenty of activities including table tennis, carpet mat bowls, snooker, darts and dodge ball. The young farmers also did some drama practice but the only music was from Georgia Price on her guitar. Sian Davies club chairman said I'm usually on my phone 24-7 and have been keeping myself busy but I do find I spend a lot of time looking at my watch." Club member Ben James was really missing his phone he said "I really wanted to check on the rugby and football results and check my emails." Other members said they were missing their phones and couldn't even listen to music or watch a DVD.
