HEREFORD Baptist church inducted a new minister on November 7.

Rev Ian Greig has been called to work with Rev Jason Borlase, Rev Niels Waugh and four elders as ministry team leader of the church. This title gives a clue to the style of ministry he represents, which emphasises enabling and encouraging the gifts of everyone in the church.

The church building has been a landmark near the corner of Commercial Road and Bath Road since the 1830s.

Rev Greig comes to Hereford having held a number of pastorates in Surrey, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire and lives in Tupsley with his wife Alison. They have grown-up children, two daughters, a hospital doctor and a women’s fashion designer respectively, and a son currently teaching maths in a secondary school in Wolverhampton.

The church invited the couple to visit over two weekends in the summer, staying with church families and being involved with church activities. Following this visit, the call was put to a ballot by church members which is the 400-year-old way of Baptist decision making.

Hereford Baptist Church is known for its work with young people, and for a 13 year history of keeping its doors open on Saturday nights as a judgment-free place to find friendship and a cup of coffee for late night revellers.

In his spare time Rev Greig likes running and cycling and bakes different kinds of bread. Together the couple enjoy walking and the countryside, and meeting new people.
