TO commemorate 58 years of the Evergreen Club, the celebratory party was held at the spacious venue in Leadon Bank with a delicious high tea, followed by the singing of Happy Birthday. Rotary president Bernie Robertson and Barbara Laglois, manager of the Evergreen Club, then ceremonially cut the specially made birthday cake that was shared with all those present.

The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of a donation for £400 from the Eastnor Masonic lodge to Barbara Langlois, which is to fund a project at Blackmarston School, Hereford, for a sensory wall. Leading the project is for the interactive mural is community artist, Jeanette McCulloch, and will involve the Evergreen members each designing and making an A4 canvas or similar, to include materials suitable for touch, sight and smell. Materials may include reflective/metallic surfaces, tactile fabrics such as fur, feathers and three dimensional plastic shapes, sachets of lavender, fluorescent collage papers etc. The making of the artwork would be a sensory and stimulating activity for the Evergreen members appealing to their own sensory perceptions (some of the group have partial sight, hearing and arthritic conditions) so the making is of as much importance to them as to that the children will derive from the finished mural. This intergenerational project with the pupils of Blackmarston School, who have severe learning difficulties, and a number of students are from Ledbury and Colwall.

Jeanette McCulloch will design and oversee the project, which will need to be strong, safe and fit for purpose. The Sensory Wall will be divided into three senses to make linked panels of touch, sound, and smell, and constructed so that they can be hung and detached from the wall in order that the pupils are able to use them.

Eastnor Lodge member, David Sparrey, remarked; "We are delighted to be in a position of funding this interactive project which works to involve the members of the Evergreen club, and benefit the end user, the pupils of Blackmarston School. This worthwhile project will give everyone involved a huge degree of pleasure and interest."
