THE start of the apple season has started in Presteigne with free apple pressing at the Presteigne market. David Pickersgill of Weobley Ash brought along his 'Scratter' to first break the apples down before they were pressed by his basket press. Local people had been invited to bring along their own apples which were then turned into apple juice. The waste material called pomace was then taken away by David to be fed to his sheep. David a market trader specialising in mutton, hogget and lamb said "Our sheep love the pomace and can't get enough of it and will give a sweet taste to the lamb".
