LEOMINSTER Rotary Club held a guest night and Rotary president Tony Smith welcomed Felicity Norman, Mayor of Leominster; Peter Blench, Leominster Mayor's Consort; and members of Leominster Inner Wheel led by Julia Smith, their president.

He also extended a warm welcome to the guest speaker Karen Usher, co-project leader and director, New Model Institute for Technology and Engineering who gave a presentation on the planning for the new Hereford university. This will be Britain’s first purpose-built university for 30 years and the role of it is to evolve radically the way engineering is taught to undergraduates. The project team are working with world-leading universities Bristol, Warwick and Olin College of Engineering to create high quality engineering graduates. The audience of about 50 people found the subject fascinating and asked Karen a variety of questions at the end of the presentation.

The Rotary Club meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at Leominster Golf Club (6pm for 6.30pm) and potential members are always welcome. The membership officer is Geoffrey Crofts and he can be contacted on 01568 615706 or email rotaryclubofleominster@hotmail.co.uk
