CUSTOMERS in a Presteigne pub have raised over £3,000 for charity in a year by purchasing meat raffle tickets.

Dale Gorman, landlord of The Royal Oak, said at least 12 meat prizes are drawn by the customers at 1pm every Sunday in the pub. Each week's meat prizes range from a joints of lamb, beef and pork, to steaks, sausages and even a breakfast pack.

Dale runs the family pub with his dad Dave, mum Claire and sister Carrie. The family purchased the pub around two and half years ago and the meat raffle has proven very popular with customers, with £3,043.97 raised over the past year and shared between different charities. The charities that have benefited so far are The Welsh and Midland Air Ambulances, East Radnor Day Centre, The Playgroup, Community Support, Scouts, Presteigne Carnival, the First Responders, Spinal Injuries Association and Cystic Fibrosis.

If anyone is connected to a charity or would like to propose their charity to benefit from future raffles, please call the Gorman family on 260842 or pop into The Royal Oak. Likewise, if anyone would like to purchase a £1 meat raffle ticket, pop into the pub and ask at the counter.

The Royal Oak serves food from Wednesday to Sunday with steak and curry nights on alternate Wednesdays and their speciality Sunday lunches from 12-3pm.
