KNIGHTON and the surrounding area was buzzing with the sounds of kettles boiling and teaspoons tinkling last Friday as residents of the local area took part in the World's Biggest Coffee Morning for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Knighton Macmillan Cancer Support group held their event in the church hall, raising £563.10. There were lots of cakes and pastries for sale as well as a nearly new stall, raffle and competition to guess the number of buttons in a jar. Visitors took part in the Baked or Faked challenge where they had to wear a blindfold and work out which bara brith was shop bought and which was homemade. This was popular, with most people getting the correct answer and choosing Maureen Conway’s home-baked bara brith.

The ladies of Kinnerton WI and their helpers raised £279 at their Macmillan event in Kinnerton village hall. There were coffees and teas, light lunches of soup, pork baps, cakes, a cheese board and lots of things for sale on the bric-a-brac tables.

Meanwhile, Radnor Valley Primary School raised £365 at their event. There were hundreds of cakes for sale, a raffle and drinks served by children and staff. The cakes were made by children, parents, staff and local people. Pupils also gave a donation to wear non uniform for the day to boost the charity funds.
