SEPTEMBER 24 marks the start of the popular Goodrich Harvest and Scarecrow Festival. This annual event which will run from September 24-27 is a top attraction will continue a programme of great community events in the area.

The festival kicks off on the Thursday, with a Flicks in the Sticks showing of Far From the Madding Crowd (12A) in the village hall at 7.30pm. Tickets will be available on the door for £4.50.

On Friday at 7pm organisers have planned a Gala Fashion Show in the village hall. This will be a fun night out for all those who love to shop until they drop. Pick up some first class fashions for both women and children at affordable prices. Tickets for £5 are available from Jolly's and include a 'harvest cup' and savoury nibbles. There will be a grand draw with fabulous prizes and a chance to meet the models.

Saturday from 10am-5pm is the time to display your scarecrows! The theme this year is 'a book or book character' and although entry is free, scarecrows must be officially entered. Prizes will be given and scarecrows can be displayed on your own premises, in the school field or at St Giles Church from September 25 onwards. There will be stalls and refreshments for what promises to be a great day.

The festival will close on the Sunday with an 11am harvest service at St Giles Church, after which the results of the scarecrow competitions will be announced. There will be free light refreshments and everyone is welcome.
