LADY Hawkins’ School's new all-weather, multi-sport facility was officially opened on July 10 by Mr and Mrs Banks of Hergest Croft Gardens. A small opening ceremony was hosted by deputy headteacher Jeff Kay and followed by an afternoon tea.

The facility can be used for hockey, netball, football and tennis, and with the addition of floodlights it’s a great facility to use during the darker evenings. The school will have use of it during the day for PE lessons and during the evenings and weekends it is a community facility, bookable through the Lady Hawkins’ Community Leisure Centre on 01544 230488.

This development of the old tennis courts was funded by grant money from Sport England which was secured with the support of Steve Hodges of Kington Tennis Club. The Sport England funding was supported by Section 106 monies from Herefordshire Council and contributions from Kington United Charities and Lady Hawkins’ School.

Kingspan Community Trust has provided funding for the hockey goals and netball posts.
