ON July 19 there will be another chance to visit what has been described as 'The best open garden in Gwent'. Nant y Bedd in the Grwyne Fawr Valley, Fforest Coal Pit, Abergavenny will be open from 11am to 5pm for the National Gardens Scheme.

The Gwent section of the NGS has already raised around £15,000 so far this year for charities including Macmillan Cancer Support and Marie Curie Cancer Care. Now you can combine giving to charity and enjoying a lovely day out.

Abergavenny-based garden designer Sarah Price has described Nant y Bedd as “Absolutely enchanting”.

Nant y Bedd sits high in the Black Mountains, surrounded by conifer forest, but offers all sorts of fascinating garden vistas across its six acres. Gardened by Sue Mabberley for over 35 years, there is something for everyone: flowers, shrubs, mature trees, organic fruit and vegetables, natural swimming pond, shepherd’s hut, riverside walk, stone walls, bridges, hedges, stream, lots of places to sit, spooky forest, ducks and chickens and vintage machinery as well as plants and garden accessories to buy. Teas will be available or bring a picnic for lunch down by the river.

Nant y Bedd featured in SAGA magazine last year and was shortlisted for a TV programme with Alan Titchmarsh; a possible feature in a major gardening magazine is also on the cards, so get a sneak preview now.

Admission for adults is just £4, with children free, all going to the NGS. Over the past years the NGS has donated over £42 million to charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care and Hospice UK, among others.
