KNIGHTON Primary school pupils Henry Shaw, Rhianna Golder, Noah Smith, Vinnie Jones, Will Thomas, Annice Quan and Mi Mi Watts went to Brecon earlier this month to take part in the Book Slam.

One of the books the Knighton children did a presentation on was Top Dog by welsh author Emma Rea. After the presentation the children were lucky enough to meet Emma. After signing one of her books for them she said: “It was wonderful to watch the pupils of Knighton Primary School stage their thorough presentation of my story Top Dog at the book slam finals in Brecon. As I'm now working on the sequel I found it fascinating to see their list of questions about what would happen next on a huge screen in the theatre. I'll be using some of their ideas in my next book about Dylan and Floyd. Feedback from children is invaluable and it was great to have the chance to meet and talk to kids who had read and thought about my work."

Class teacher Jane Watts said the children did very well; they stood up on the stage in front of an audience to do their presentations. This was a result of spending hours of their own time in the school outdoor quad area reading and discussing the book. I'm very proud and impressed with the hard work and level of maturity the children have shown." Jane also thanked volunteer Alice Cowell for all her work with the children.
