TREVOR Lloyd from Knighton has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s birthday honours for the craft of bookbinding and book restoration.

Trevor, 57, was first introduced to bookbinding in the mid 1970s when he was at college in York. He left college and went to work for a local bookbinder before joining a famous bookbinding company in London. In the early 1980s Trevor and his wife Bev moved to Llangunllo, before the Rhos-y-Meirch and then Knighton in 2001. Trevor’s business flourished and he found himself restoring books from all over the world, including books from Japan and San Francisco, some of them dated before 1500.

The award also takes into account all Trevor’s volunteer work with the Society of Bookbinders. He was the editor of their magazine for five years, and gives lectures all over the world, passing on the bookbinding and restoration skills he has learnt to the next generation.

Trevor has also done a fair bit of volunteer work around Knighton since moving to the area. He ran Llangunllo Youth Club for over 10 years and is a founding member of the popular Radnor Ramble which attracts hundreds of people from all over the UK. Trevor and Bev have three grown-up children: Ben, Megan and Eleanor. Trevor said “They were all very excited to hear the news.”

Bev, who is a retired teacher after 20 years, now helps to run the family business in Ludlow, The Bindery Shop.
