KNIGHTON Town Football Club held their annual dinner at their club house on Bryn-y-Castell recently. The event saw great celebrations after the first team had a fantastic season by winning both the league and league cup trophies. The reserve team also had a great year, finishing runners up in their league.

Joint reserve team manager Matt Davies said: "Our season didn’t start very well but then things started to settle down and we finished the season strongly." Matt thanked Gary and Ali Proudman for sponsoring their kit, John Ellis and Glyn Lloyd for their sponsorship and support, Sophie Watts for all the work she has done, all their loyal supporters and members of the first team for their help and support wishing them all the best for the next season.

Top scorer awards went to Marc Wozencraft and Billy Hyatt who both scored 22 goals. Supporters Player of the Year was won by Harry Worton who was presented with his trophy by John Ellis. Manager's Player of the Year was Marc Wozencraft and Players' Player of the Year Adam Worton. Manager Matt Davies was given a special thanks for leading the team through what was a very difficult year for him.

Joint first team manager Jason Samuel praised the reserves for coming runners up in the league and the brilliant job done by the managers. He said “I was very happy when Adam asked me to be joint manager. I want to say a big thank you to the players. It has been a joy to do the job and to come away with two trophies. All I can say for next season is the work starts here and if we apply ourselves there is no reason why we can’t get another trophy.” Adam Worton then said: “Thank you everyone for coming tonight to celebrate this outstanding year for the club." He thanked the players, supporters, committee members, grounds men and everyone who had contributed. The first team award winners were Mark Jones, Manager's Player of the Year; Players' Player of the Year was Adam Farmer and Supporters' Player of the Year Dan Dawson, whose trophy was presented by Kevin Edwards.

Club chairman Gary Cooper said: “I have enjoyed being chairman this year. It’s a fantastic family football club.” He echoed the managers by thanking the sponsors, supporters, players, bar staff, Dave and Rose Lloyd, Brian and Lyn, Matt and Carly O’Rourke, Sophie Watts, Colin Bird, as well as others and Knighton Community Centre for the use of its tables, and lastly the managers.

Gary then presented the Clubman of the Year award to Colin Bird for his volunteering work. Lee Sutton, who has played for Knighton for many years and was described by the chairman as a 40-year-old whippet running around the pitch, said: “This season, Knighton has the best team I’ve seen in the town for about 20 years. There is no moaning or arguing and all players have played really well.”
