DEMENTIA Awareness Week in Knighton was incredibly successful especially as it was the first.

Local group KINDA Dementia Awareness shared a stand at the Knighton Community Market with Crossroads. They also held two awareness sessions, held a coffee morning which raised £130, and 17 shops created memory windows. There is also a permanent display in Knighton library.

KINDA's Julia Roberts said “Well done, everyone. What an incredible effort.” She continued: “The teaching staff at Knighton Primary now all have Dementia Friendly status, and Jane Watts, who is both a teacher at the school and a community councillor at Llanfair Waterdine, is very keen to become a champion. Hopefully, some training here in Knighton will be organised before the schools break up. Knighton Primary also has five people with Dementia Friendly status on the governing body.”

Julia will now be speaking to Bucknell and Presteigne primary schools. The group have booked a stall at the market for Saturday to support National Carers' Week. Knighton and District Community Support (Kinda’s umbrella body) are moving to new, temporary high street premises at the end of the month so there will be an opportunity of having a permanent display for KINDA and our 'try before you buy' scheme.

The next booked DF Awareness session is at the Tower Gallery on July 8, from 7-8pm.
