PAWS FOR TEA-PARTY – On Sunday from 10am until noon.

The actor and well known animal lover, Martin Clunes, who is due to reprise his role as Doc Martin this year, is urging people across the country to hold a Paws for Tea event during May to raise money for the Blue Cross organisation which helps animals. It is common knowledge that Mr Clunes has a farm with many pets and livestock and the Blue Cross charity is something that he is very keen to support.

The Shop at Bromsberrow is holding a Paws for Tea-party on Sunday from 10am until noon.

Shop staff will serve a variety of beverages and delicious cakes and funds raised will go towards the Blue Cross Animal Charity. Events manager James Dowdall said; “We are encouraging people to bring their pets along (large or small and whatever it is) and free animal treats will be on offer, along with doggy ‘poo-bag’ which have been donated by our Parish Council. If the weather is fine, outside seating will be available. Please come along and put your paw print of support to this very worthy cause whilst having fun at the shop raising money for our beloved pets on a happy Sunday morning!”

Burley Gate

BURLEY GATE SHOP/POST OFFICE – The proposed new Post Office/shop for Burley Gate and the surrounding area - which will possibly be the only one within a wide area - will not be opening unless the fundraisers meet their target. Organisers have expressed a big ‘thank you’ to those who came to the successful initial launch meeting and who pledged to buy shares. HMRC approval for the project has been received and investments are now eligible for 30% social investment tax relief. Full details are available on the website, burleygate communityshop.co.uk or from committee members on 01432 820242, 07973 156303 or 01432 820436. It cannot be emphasised too strongly that if the project is to go ahead there are deadlines to be met when it comes to raising the necessary finance, and that the existing shop will be closing shortly, come what may and regardless of the level of local investment. Residents are urged to come forward with their cheque books to avoid their having to travel many miles each day, simply for life’s essentials.

Each of the policies flow from the views, opinions and ambitions of local residents expressed in the residents survey last autumn which drew detailed responses from 83% of residents, and the two consultation events which were amongst the best attended events in the country. The draft plan can be read and downloaded at fownhope.org.uk, along with the background reports and copies of the response form.
