NATIONAL Gardening Week was launched four years ago by the Royal Horticultural Society and since then has grown into the country's biggest celebration of gardening.

This year saw the first ever National Open Gardens Day on April 17 to celebrate the fantastic, entrancing, historical, beguiling, visual, educational and delicious array of gardens that we are lucky enough to have. The RHS wanted to give as many people as possible the chance to visit selected gardens for free and find out for themselves what makes gardens so brilliant.

Some of the most respected gardens in UK took part including Wisley in Surrey, Hyde Hall in Essex, Rosemoor in North Devon, Harlow Carr in North Yorkshire and St Andrew's Botanic Garden in Scotland.

Moors Meadow Gardens and Nursery was the garden in Herefordshire which was invited to take part and visitors from as far afield as North Lincolnshire and Surrey made a special effort to visit this inspirational seven-acre garden and meet the plantswomen who tend it organically to encourage myriad wildlife.
