HAVE you ever wondered how and why church bells are rung? Now is your chance! There will be a bell ringing demonstration and exhibition today, St George's Day, from 5.30pm to 7.30pm at St George's Church in Woolhope. You will be able to see the bells in action on closed circuit television, speak to the local ringers and have a go at ringing yourself. The exhibition will feature the history of ringing, models of the working parts of a bell and details about the project to rehang the bells at Woolhope and how the bell fund is coming along. Refreshments will be also available and best of all, there's no entry fee ... but you may like to make a donation to the Woolhope Bell Fund which is trying to raise £40,000 towards the cost of refurbishing the bells.

To follow this, why not try a St George's Day "pie and a pint special" from 6pm onwards at The Crown with car park cricket depending on weather?

Just a few days later, there will be a whole weekend of celebrations for the patron saint of England at Woolhope. The St George's weekend on Saturday and Sunday begins on Saturday at 10am with a parish walk (approx six miles) starting from The Skallenge - entrance gate to the church. A hot lunch in the Parish Hall will be available for the walkers and supporters for just £5 per person.

On Saturday evening starting at 6.30pm there will be a concert in the church by the John Eden Choir and Mordiford School Choir. Again no entry fee but donations to the Friends of Woolhope Church would be much appreciated to help with special maintenance projects within the church.

On Sunday at 10.30am come along to the Patronal service and then treat your family and friends to lunch with a special St George's celebration menu at either The Butchers Arms www.butchersarmswoolhope.com or The Crown www.crowninnwoolhope.co.uk.

To finish the weekend, come and sing your favourite hymns at a Songs of Praise service starting at 6.30pm in St George's Church.

What better way to celebrate St George - come and enjoy – it's all happening at Woolhope.
