DESCRIBED by Nikolaus Pevsner as 'one of the most perfect Norman village churches in England'. The church of St Mary and St David, Kilpeck has recently been presented with a NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies) Church Trail for Children, by Hereford DFAS.

The lavish building style of Kilpeck Church is a fine example of the Herefordshire School of Romanesque Sculpture and is much visited by tourists from all over the world, as it stands barely altered from when it was built in the twelfth century.

The children of Madley Primary School were clearly fascinated when they tried out the trail. They enjoyed every aspect of the church and in particular climbing the mound of the adjacent castle! It is hoped that many more visitors will use the trail to explore the key features of the church and its surroundings.

The Kilpeck Children's Trail is the second to be completed by Hereford DFAS, as last year they presented a trail to St Faith's Church, Bacton, which houses a variety of 'treasures' including the tomb of Blanche Parry, handmaid to Queen Elizabeth 1. Having greatly enjoyed compiling the trail the Hereford team are looking forward to beginning work on a new children's trail in the near future.
