KIRSTY Chillery from Knighton wanted to thank Macmillan Cancer Care for helping her mum Debbie Chillery who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer and also raise money for Breast Cancer Research to help them find a cure for all breast cancers in the future.

Kirsty organised a fund raising afternoon at the church hall, Knighton and raised over £1,050. The money will be divided equally between the two charities and thanks to Fran Lewis, the HSBC will be match funding some of the money raised for Macmillan.

At the event there were lots of things to do and see, a huge selection of cakes for sale well over 50 raffle prizes, guess the name of the teddies, and how many sweets in a jar. Mary Stiffe won the big raffle prize for a night in a Wigwam at Black Hall Lodges for five people and other raffle winners included Jenny Robinson, Ellen Roberts, Helen Evans, Rayleen Banks, Pat Ball, Jenny Davies, Brenda Edwards, Dot Price, Sam Davies and Jolene Martin. The door raffle was won by Muriel Wyles, Mercedes Wyles guessed correctly how many sweets in the jar (266), the teddies were won by Bev Ridley and Cane Davies.

Kirsty thanked her helpers on the day including Sabrina Morris, Julie Biggs, Dawn Burgoyne, Colleen Banks, Donna Tyler and others, she also thanked all the local businesses, family and friends who donated raffle prizes and cakes, Fran Lewis for getting match funding from the HSBC and everyone who came along and supported her on the day.
