WORLD Book Day was celebrated with great gusto at Longtown Primary School this year.

For the pre-school children, World Book Day also coincided with the opening of their refurbished story corner. The preschool children had an exciting day, dressing up as their favourite book characters and making their own books in the morning. In the afternoon they were visited by children from Class 3 for some amazing story telling. The children had worked very hard to create some imaginative props to help tell their stories and the pre-schoolers loved spending time with the older children.

Class 2 children were busy reading extracts from Cressida Cowell's book How to Train Your Dragon. Having been inspired, the pupils then invented their own dragon, writing detailed descriptions of them and making dragon Top Trump cards. Later in the day, in their regular forest school sessions, the children continued with this work, making dragons out of natural materials and reading dragon tales around the campfire.

Class 1 children used Julia Donaldson’s Superworm as their focus for the day. They created story maps and were joined by pupils from Garway Primary School and used iPads to create iMovies based on the story.
